PLAYREADING GROUP
Our
playreading group meets on alternate Monday mornings from 1030 to
1215 or 1230, depending on people's other commitments.
As group leader, I have the responsibility of choosing the plays we read, but have always to bear in mind that the numbers attending vary from 3 to 8, and consists of two men and 6 women - thus cutting out many classics and plays advertised as 'Plays for Women'! This means I have to try to avoid my readers having to talk to themselves when there are too many characters for the number attending.
As a result, our reading is mainly light, and I seem to have found that my taste runs to murder mysteries and comedy, so the sessions would not appeal to bluestockings! After the reading, we discuss the style of writing and whether or not the writer has achieved his/her objectives.
The group meets in my sitting room which, although a reasonable size, could accommodate perhaps only 1 or 2 more readers. In addition, parking in Byron Road is limited.
All in all, we enjoy our readings and the companionship we share.
