Possible New Groups

familytreeGenealogy

After reading the U3A Sources magazine, and of all the groups who are researching their family histories, I wonder if I am the only one in the Stroud & District Branch who would love to find out about granny, and possibly far back relations.

Reading the magazine, one can see that you need good leaders, who are at ease with computers, and know a lot about genealogy.

As we have over four hundred members, I do hope someone can start a group to help in this, learning, absorbing, addictive hobby. This novice would be the first to join.

New Groups?

These new groups have been suggested recently:

basicdiyBASIC DO-IT-YOURSELF

  • This would be a group to enable members to learn how to do some basic jobs about the house, such as how to screw something to a wall, how to replace a fuse, how to wire a three pin plug, how to fit a drilling bit to an electric drill, and how to adjust its speed.
  • It would need a leader with simple knowledge, and probably have a fluid membership, with some pooling of information.

modelsMODEL MAKING

  • This is a very wide subject and could be of interest to a variety of people. There has been no suggestion as to what type of model making so the field is wide open.

holaSPANISH CONVERSATION

  • This is a suggestion which was put forward a few months ago. As far as I know, nothing came of it. But now it has been brought up again. The emphasis would be on conversation rather than a formal class.

daysoutOUTINGS

  • I know that some groups organise their own outings, but this suggestion is that we have a group which solely exists to organise outings.

If any member is interested in any of these suggestions, either as a leader or as a participant, please let me know, and I will try to put you in touch, either through the Newsletter or individually.
