Each year the Royal Institution and the U3A team up to produce an afternoon of the best speakers from the Ri’s programme on a variety of subjects. The speakers are as follows:
2.00pm Introduction by Ian Searle, (Chairman of The Third Age Trust)
2.05pm Dr John Manlove - Forensic Science, an overview Forensics expert Dr John Manlove will explore the host of scientific techniques he uses to identify humans. He will explain forensic biology (DNA, body fluid examination, blood patterns), forensic chemistry (footwear, fingerprints, glass, paint, marks enhancement), forensic ecology (entomology, palynology, diatomology), archaeology and anthropology, firearms and ballistics, and drugs and toxicology. 2.40pm Question and answer session
2.50pm Dr Suzie Sheehy - Accelerated dreams: How particle accelerators have changed our lives……and what they will look like in the future Embark on a journey of discovery about a technology that has truly changed our lives, and changed the way we understand the world around us. Less than 100 years ago the particle accelerator was nothing more than a dream, yet today they have become an integral part of modern life, from medicine to mobile phone technology. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a particle accelerator with the help of demonstrations and get a glimpse of what these cutting-edge machines can do for you, and where they are heading in the future. 3.25pm Question and answer session

4.10pm Prof Tim Wheeler - Food production in a changing climate Climate change is expected to bring warmer temperatures, changes to rainfall patterns and increased frequency of extreme weather. This talk will explain how climate change will affect food crops and how food crop production in a changing climate can feed an increasing world population. As climate change brings more extreme weather, how will farming communities around the world be affected? And how can they adapt to the impacts of climate change? 4.45pm Question and answer session

Places are limited. Admission is by ticket only at £18 each including refreshments.
Please apply in writing to: The Third Age Trust, 19 East Street, Bromley, Kent BR1 1QE enclosing a 2nd class stamp for up to 4 tickets or a large letter stamp if you require more (maximum 15 tickets per applicant) and a cheque made payable to The Third Age Trust.
You will be notified immediately if the event becomes over-subscribed and asked if you wish to be placed on the waiting list.
The Third Age Trust cannot give refunds but may be able to offer your ticket to any waiting list if you are unable to attend.
Applications can be sent immediately.
