ANNA'S
LITERATURE GROUP
This group has an eclectic choice' of books ranging from biographies, through short stories, the classics, travel books, to modem, award-winning novels.
We generally take two sessions to discuss a book. In the last 3 years we've undertaken what we call our 'works outing'. That is, taking a day to visit somewhere associated with something we have read. We've been to Clyro (associated with Rev. Francis Kilvert), Bath to see 'Little Nell' (Dickens mistress) and also, by stretching the imagination somewhat, Tewkesbury Abbey, to get a feel for a clerical community (Trollope).
At the moment we are reading 'Suite Francaise', the skeleton of a proposed novel by Irene Nemirovsky, set in occupied Paris in 1942, months before her death in Auschwitz. She writes beautifully, with a great understanding of human nature and an acute eye for comic detail.
We are at present at our full compliment of 12, but members do come and go.
